San Jose Rezones IBM Property Amid Speculation Over Future Development

The IBM Almaden Research Center in South San Jose is set to undergo redevelopment after the city council voted 9-2 to rezone a portion of the property.

The rezoning will change 35.1 acres of industrial land at 650 Harry Road from an 'industrial park zoning district' to allow for future development, while the surrounding 565.1 acres of vacant land is being designated as 'open space zoning district'.

While no specific projects have been approved, city planners report that multiple real estate executives have expressed interest in redeveloping the site.
