Scenic Hudson Buys IBM Land for Future Poughkeepsie Park
The Town Board of Poughkeepsie has approved an amendment allowing Scenic Hudson to purchase 100 acres of IBM land. The organization plans to eventually transfer ownership of the land to the Town of Poughkeepsie to establish a public park.
The original plan was for the town to buy the land through state and local grants, as well as a donation from Scenic Hudson. However, this has been delayed due to testing of groundwater at a construction debris landfill on the site by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
Scenic Hudson has agreed to purchase the land now so it can be acquired before the purchasing contract between IBM and the town expires. The organization will reimburse the town for a $110,000 contract down payment as part of the sale.
