Scotland Plans £1 Billion Data Center and Battery Energy Storage Project

A former IBM site in Scotland is set to become a major digital infrastructure project after plans for an 80,000 square meter data center and 99MW battery energy storage system (BESS) were submitted to Inverclyde Council.

The proposed development at Spango Valley, south of the A78 Inverkip Road in Greenock, would replace earlier plans for a residential-led scheme with up to 450 homes.

The data center would consist of four buildings, with around 80,000 square meters of floor space and a maximum height of approximately 18 meters. The site would also include access roads, parking, hard standing, security fencing, and landscaping.
