Scotty Cameron's Golf Innovations: From Caulk to Axes

Scotty Cameron's iconic TeI3 putters have been a favorite among golfers for decades, and their unique design has become synonymous with the sport. The distinctive 32 white dots on the back of the putter were not just aesthetically pleasing, but also served a purpose in improving the feel of the club.

Cameron revealed that he filled the holes left by screws in the back cavity of the TeI3 with GE Tub and Tile Silicone caulk, which was sourced from Target. This unexpected material helped to soften the feel of the putter at impact, making it a key component of the design.

The USGA presented Cameron with another challenge when they took issue with his new wrap-around face inserts in 2016. The parallel groove rule, which was intended to prevent grooves from being placed on the sole of woods and irons, was deemed too restrictive by Cameron, who questioned its relevance for putters.

The Pistolero grip, designed by Cameron after experimenting with an axe handle at Home Depot, features a large knob at the end and has become a signature element of Scotty Cameron's putter designs.
