Scrub Daddy's Mysterious Fortune: The Unspoken Ownership Stake
Aaron Krause, founder of Scrub Daddy, has built a fortune through his innovative sponge product. Krause graduated from Syracuse University in 1992 with a psychology degree and went on to start Dedication to Detail, a car-detailing operation in the Philadelphia suburbs. He sold the buffing-pad line to 3M in 2008 for an undisclosed price.
Krause's Sponge prototype sat in a box for three years after being rejected by 3M. However, he rediscovered it and refined the design for kitchen use in 2011. Scrub Daddy made its debut on Shark Tank Season 4 in October 2012, with Lori Greiner investing $200,000 for 20% equity.
Today, Scrub Daddy generates over $220 million in revenue, according to Reuters. However, the actual ownership stake of Aaron Krause remains undisclosed. A JPMorgan advisory mandate has been hired to advise investors on whether and how to cash out, but no sale has closed yet.
