SEBI Cracks Down on JPMorgan Unit and Mansi Share Over Sensex Manipulation Allegations
SEBI has imposed strict regulations on Copthall Mauritius, a unit of JPMorgan Chase & Co., and Mansi Share and Stock Broking Ltd. following allegations of market manipulation during the Closing Auction Session (CAS) on August 13, 2026.
The regulator claims that these entities placed large, aggressive orders to artificially inflate the BSE Sensex Indicative Equilibrium Price, benefiting their positions in the derivatives market.
As a result, SEBI has impounded approximately ₹3.68 crore, which it describes as unlawful gains, and barred both companies from accessing the securities market until further orders are issued.
Copthall Mauritius operates primarily as an investment conduit for global clients and is distinct from JPMorgan India Pvt. Ltd., which manages the firm's local stockbroking and merchant banking services.
