Seinfeld Credited with Birth of American Express Black Card
Jerry Seinfeld has shared his connection to the American Express Centurion Card on Sebastian Maniscalco's We Got Company podcast.
The comedian, 72, was an American Express spokesperson when he pitched the idea for a secret card with exclusive benefits for top spenders.
A crew member approached Seinfeld and asked if he had the Black Card, which Seinfeld said didn't exist at the time. He then called the president of American Express and suggested making it a reality.
The next morning, Seinfeld spoke with Harvey Golub, who agreed to look into it. As a result, the Centurion Card was created.
Seinfeld revealed that he received the first Black Card but threw it out, not knowing what happened to it.
