Seinfeld Sparks Creation of Exclusive American Express Black Card
American Express's exclusive Black Card was reportedly inspired by none other than Jerry Seinfeld. In an interview on his We Got Company podcast, Seinfeld shared how he inadvertently sparked the creation of the card.
Seinfeld recalled a conversation with a crew member on the set of a commercial shoot where someone whispered to him about the supposed secret Black Card. The comedian didn't have it, but after learning more about it, he called American Express's president at the time, Harvey Golub, and asked about the card.
Golub denied its existence, but Seinfeld remained undeterred, saying 'Let's do it. Let's make the Black Card.' To his surprise, Golub agreed to look into it, and the rest is history.
