SER's Heavy Haulage Helps Fuel Kishorn Dry Dock Expansion
RJ McLeod is carrying out an expansion of the UK's largest dry dock at Kishorn Port in Strathcarron, Scotland. To aid this project, Stevens Equipment Rental (SER) has supplied over 20 machines to RJ McLeod. The machinery package includes Volvo and Caterpillar equipment, such as articulated haulers, excavators, wheel loaders, and dozers.
The expansion involves adding 100 meters of usable length to the dry dock and reclaiming an adjacent tidal area to create nine hectares of laydown land. This new infrastructure is designed to support the growing offshore wind, decommissioning, and aquaculture sectors.
Due to the extreme abrasion of Torridonian sandstone, the fleet had to be equipped with reinforced buckets and custom ground-engaging tools (GET) to protect bucket lip integrity and minimize unplanned downtime. To optimize site productivity, SER has also equipped many machines with 3D machine control and safety features such as 360° cameras and human-form detection systems.
Mark Need, sales manager for Scotland and the north of England at Stevens Equipment Rental, emphasized the importance of a balanced system in maintaining project schedules. He noted that productivity is not just about individual machine performance but also about how equipment choices support the overall project schedule.
