ServiceNow and Salesforce are leading the charge in artificial intelligence (AI) adoption among enterprise software providers, but they're taking different approaches to capitalize on this trend. ServiceNow is focusing on workflow automation, while Salesforce is leveraging its data moat through agents.

ServiceNow's Q2 revenue grew 24% year-over-year, driven by AI-fueled growth in workflow automation. The company's AI annual contract value (ACV) crossed $1 billion, with customers seeing a nine-fold increase in the number of production-ready agentic workflows over the past nine months.

Salesforce, on the other hand, reported Q2 revenue of $11.35 billion, up 11% year-over-year. The company's Agentforce ARR (annual recurring revenue) crossed $1.5 billion, with combined AI and data ARR about to reach $4 billion.

ServiceNow CEO Bill McDermott emphasized the importance of AI in governing execution across every workflow, model, and cloud, while Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff highlighted the role of AI in unlocking more value across all four layers of the platform.
