Sherwin-Williams Faces Fines as Township Residents Hope for Air Quality Improvement

Rochester Township residents are cautiously optimistic that a recent agreement between Sherwin-Williams and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PA DEP) will lead to improved air quality in their neighborhood.

Todd Mackall, who has lived near the facility since 2003, describes the smell as 'like fingernail polish remover' and says it's unbearable at times, making him unable to open his windows or spend time outside comfortably.

Under the agreement, Sherwin-Williams must install two emissions-control systems by August 28th and October 31st, respectively. Failure to meet these deadlines will result in penalties of $1,000 per day for each violation.

Mackall is skeptical that the financial penalties are sufficient, saying 'That's nothing to them' and expressing frustration that the company didn't address the issue sooner.
