Sheskharis Terminal Hit by Overnight Strike, Not CPC Facility

The recent attack near Novorossiysk has sparked concern about the safety of oil infrastructure in the region. However, experts claim that the strikes overnight on August 12 actually targeted the Sheskharis terminal, not the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) terminal.

CPC's terminal is located close to the settlement of Yuzhnaya Ozereyevka, while Sheskharis sits inside Novorossiysk itself. This distinction matters globally because U.S. firms Chevron and ExxonMobil hold major stakes in Kazakh oil output, making any threat to CPC a broader market concern.

Analyst Mykhailo Honchar emphasized that the attack was directed at Sheskharis, where no American oil is handled. 'The strikes targeted the Sheskharis terminal, from which exclusively Russian oil is exported,' he said. As a result, CPC's infrastructure remains undamaged and continues to operate normally.

Honchar dismissed concerns about severe consequences from the incident, saying that brief interruptions could occur but companies would not lose money due to rising prices. He noted how resilient the oil market can be to such events.
