Shinhan Partners with Visa on Stablecoin-Based Future Finance Initiatives
South Korea's Shinhan Financial Group has partnered with Visa to develop 'future finance' initiatives, focusing on stablecoins, AI, and B2B payments. The agreement will see Shinhan utilize Visa's stablecoin platform for verification, remittance, and redemption. The pair plans to integrate stablecoins into joint pilot projects, including card payment settlements, AI-based future payment models, and the expansion of B2B and B2C payment businesses.
Shinhan's CEO, Jin Ok-dong, stated that this partnership will combine the company's financial capabilities with Visa's global infrastructure to design new future finance models. The two companies aim to tailor a Korea-specific business model to the domestic financial environment.
This deal comes amid local legislative efforts to establish the Digital Asset Basic Act, which covers stablecoins, VASP licensing, and crypto exchange-traded funds. Shinhan has already made significant strides in digital transformation, with its credit card subsidiary partnering with the Solana Foundation for stablecoin payment systems.
