Showalter Takes Aim at Serendipity Reboot
A modern retelling of the cult-classic romantic comedy Serendipity is in the works for Amazon MGM Studios and Miramax. The new film will be directed by Michael Showalter, who is also set to produce alongside Jordana Mollick for Semi-Formal Productions.
Showalter expressed his excitement over taking on the project, stating that he 'is so honored and excited' to work with Marc Klein's original script. He clarified that this new adaptation will not be a remake or reboot, but rather a rebuttal with new characters, storylines, and ideas about love and relationships.
The original Serendipity, released in 2001, starred John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale as two strangers who fall for each other on Christmas night. The film was produced by Simon Fields and grossed over $77 million worldwide.
