Shut Down Google's Creeping AI Features
Google's AI features have been making their way into various products, including Gmail and Google Docs. However, some users may not want to use these features, and there is a way to disable them.
The Gemini bar in Google Docs can be hidden by clicking the menu bar, then hovering over Bottom bar preferences and selecting Turn off. This will remove the giant bar from the screen, but if you want to banish AI features entirely, there are other options available.
One way is to change a setting in Gmail. For personal accounts, this can be done by opening Gmail, clicking the gear icon, then See all settings. In the General tab, scroll down until you see the Smart features option and uncheck it. This will disable several AI-powered features in Gmail, including grammar suggestions, autocorrect, and spellcheck.
However, this method also disables other useful features, so if you depend on them, you may be stuck with AI in Google Docs. An alternative is to install the Bye Bye Gemini extension for Google Chrome, which uses CSS to render all AI features invisible in the browser.
