Silicon Valley Tries to Stay Neutral in 'Lake America' Naming Dispute
Tech giants Apple and Google have updated their mapping services to reflect US President Donald Trump's executive order renaming Lake Ontario to 'Lake America' for domestic users.
The move follows a similar update by Google Maps days earlier, after the body of water was officially renamed in the US Geographic Names Information System.
Lake Ontario spans more than 400 years of history and covers over half its surface area in Canada, with the remainder bordering New York state.
The update is part of a broader trend where Silicon Valley companies are being pulled into geopolitical spats as the White House pushes for alignment with directives rejected by international allies.
