Singapore Airlines and Qantas Eye Major Wide-Body Jet Orders
Singapore Airlines and Qantas Airways are reportedly in talks to purchase dozens of wide-body aircraft from Boeing and Airbus. Singapore Airlines is evaluating a potential order for at least 50 large passenger jets, including the Boeing 777X and Airbus A350-1000. The airline aims to anchor its next major growth phase with the multi-billion-dollar acquisition.
Concurrently, Qantas Airways is evaluating a separate order for roughly 20 wide-body aircraft to support its ongoing fleet renewal strategy. The potential purchase would augment Qantas' existing long-haul modernization strategy and phase out its older Airbus A330 and A380 fleets starting in fiscal year 2027.
Boeing shares gained about 4% on Thursday after the media report said two of the Asia-Pacific region's largest carriers are in separate talks with Boeing and Airbus to purchase dozens of wide-body aircraft. Representatives for both Airbus and Boeing declined to comment on the active, multi-billion-dollar negotiations.
