A new center focused on post-quantum cybersecurity will be launched in Singapore by the end of 2026, according to IBM and the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT). The Quantum-Safe Centre will be based at SIT's Punggol campus within the Punggol Digital District.

The center aims to help organizations prepare for the potential risks associated with quantum computing. Current encryption methods protect data across various sectors, including financial services and healthcare. However, advances in quantum computing have raised concerns that sufficiently powerful computers could break some public-key cryptographic algorithms used today.

Singapore has already established a framework for preparing for this risk. The Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA) has stated that post-quantum cryptography will be the country's mainstream approach to quantum-safe migration, with standards developed by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) serving as a baseline.

The IBM-SIT center will form part of this broader preparation effort. It will help organizations identify potentially vulnerable cryptography and assess their readiness to migrate to quantum-safe alternatives. The center will also support planning for the replacement or updating of affected systems.
