SK Hynix Chairman Downplays Nvidia Dependence Concerns Amid AI-Fueled Memory Demand
SK Hynix Chairman Chey Tae-won has downplayed concerns about his company's dependence on Nvidia, calling it 'the most important customer right now.'
Chey made these comments in a CNBC interview at SK Hynix's headquarters in Korea, where he credited Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang for building the AI ecosystem with a wide network of partners.
He emphasized that SK Hynix supplies multiple hyperscalers, including Google and Microsoft, and is not overly reliant on a single buyer. Chey added that Nvidia's dominance in AI infrastructure is driving up demand for SK Hynix's memory, rather than creating a concentration risk.
Chey warned that the current memory shortage is 'explosive,' with customers asking for almost double their previous demand. He predicted it may take four to five years to expand capacity and meet this increased demand.
