Somon Air Takes Delivery of First Boeing 737 Max

Tajikistan-based carrier Somon Air has taken delivery of its first Boeing 737 Max, marking a significant step in modernizing its fleet. The aircraft, a 737-8, is leased from Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) and represents the first 737 Max to operate in Tajikistan.

The 737-8 will fly short- and medium-haul routes across Central Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, with Somon Air's CEO Abdulkosim Valiev highlighting the aircraft's fuel efficiency as a key advantage. The airline plans to use the new aircraft to open new routes and improve its network.

DAE's Firoz Tarapore expressed excitement about delivering the first 737-8 to Somon Air, praising the airline's commitment to modernizing its fleet with efficient aircraft. Boeing vice president Paul Righi noted that Somon Air has come a long way since it began as a regional carrier two decades ago and now operates as an emerging international presence.

The 737 Max is known for its improved fuel efficiency, which will help reduce carbon emissions by up to 20% compared to older aircraft. The new aircraft can carry up to 210 passengers depending on configuration and has a range of up to 3,500 nautical miles (6,480 km).
