Somon Air Welcomes First Boeing 737 MAX Aircraft into Its Fleet
Somon Air has become the latest airline to take delivery of the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The Tajikistan-based carrier received its first 737-8, which is leased from Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE). This marks a significant milestone for Somon Air, as it expands its fleet with more modern and fuel-efficient planes.
The 737-8 will be used to operate short- and medium-haul routes across Central Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. According to Abdulkosim Valiev, CEO of Somon Air, the new aircraft will enable the airline to 'open new routes with improved economics' due to its increased range capability and fuel efficiency.
The delivery of the 737-8 is part of a two-aircraft commitment between DAE and Somon Air. Firoz Tarapore, CEO of DAE, expressed his excitement about being part of this occasion and stated that DAE is 'delighted to deliver both Somon Air's first Boeing 737-8 and the first Boeing 737-8 in Tajikistan.'
The addition of the 737 MAX aircraft is a significant step forward for Somon Air, which currently operates single-aisle planes. The airline plans to expand its fleet with up to 10 more Boeing 737 MAX family aircraft, as well as four Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, allowing it to break into the long-haul market.
Paul Righi, Boeing's vice president of Commercial Sales and Marketing for Eurasia, India, and South Asia, welcomed Somon Air's trust in Boeing and expressed his commitment to supporting the airline's continued growth.
