Sonic's Hotumn Drinks Try to Bridge Summer and Fall Flavors
Sonic Drive-In has introduced its new Hotumn drinks, a line of beverages that attempt to bridge the gap between summer and fall flavors. The collection includes four dirty sodas and one flavored tea, all designed to evoke the tastes of autumn without being too heavy or spicy.
The drinks are Cherry Pie made with Coke, Blueberry Pie made with Dr Pepper, Harvest Berry made with Sprite, and Cranberry Orchard sweet tea. According to Megan Hageman's taste test for Tasting Table, Sonic's Hotumn drinks have a refreshing twist on traditional fall flavors, but may not entirely live up to their namesakes.
The Cherry Pie drink was found to be similar to Coca-Cola Cherry Float, with its vanilla and cherry flavorings giving it a creamy consistency. However, Hageman noted that the drink doesn't quite taste like cherry pie without some kind of crust-adjacent component or baked flavor.
On the other hand, the Blueberry Pie made with Dr Pepper was found to be heavily influenced by the complex flavors of the soda itself, rather than the blueberry puree. Hageman liked it, but noted that the resemblance to actual blueberry pie is weak.
