Sony Insider Denies Discless Strategy Reversal at Gamescom

A former Sony insider has disputed recent claims that the company is reconsidering its discless strategy. Richard Browne, who previously worked at Sony and Psygnosis, says there was no discussion about changing the plan during Gamescom 2026. According to Browne, publishers are continuing to follow guidance for a move away from physical discs in 2028.

Browne's comments contradict recent claims that Sony could reconsider its strategy. He stated on X that 'there was NO talk of Sony changing strategy at GamesCom.'

Microsoftr also plans to follow a similar approach if it launches another console, Browne claimed. This comes as Microsoft has been exploring an alternative approach with its Disc-to-Digital programme.
