Spaceship Earth Embarks on Its Fourth Reimagining
Walt Disney World has announced that Spaceship Earth, a classic EPCOT attraction, is finally getting a major update after nearly 20 years. The reimagining of the iconic geodesic sphere was revealed at the 2026 D23 Expo by Imagineer Ali Rubinstein and YouTuber Mark Rober.
The current version of Spaceship Earth tells the story of human communication, but the new focus will be on a broader theme: human connection. This is reminiscent of the shelved project 'Spaceship Earth: Our Shared Story', which was planned to transform the ride 'through the power of light' and bring the entire experience together.
The attraction has undergone three previous reimaginings since its opening in 1982, with the last one being a routine refurbishment last year that addressed the underlying ride system. The timing of the closure for the new update is not yet announced, but it's likely to be sometime after Christmas in 2027.
