SpaceX Bolsters AI Push with Expanded NVIDIA Partnership
SpaceX has expanded its partnership with NVIDIA to provide computing power for its Starmind AI satellite network. The news sent both companies' stocks surging on Tuesday, with NVDA up 3.04% to $212.91 and SPCX climbing 9.43% to close at $125.33.
The partnership will see NVIDIA's Rubin GPUs and Vera CPUs powering the Starmind satellites, which are intended to be deployed in space ahead of SpaceX's Q2 earnings report. The proposed network would consist of a large constellation of satellites orbiting between 500-2000 kilometers above Earth's surface, with a 'petabit-scale' laser communications network between them.
SpaceX has committed to using Nvidia GPUs exclusively, citing their superior performance in AI processing. NVIDIA's Space-1 Vera Rubin Module, for example, offers up to 25 times the AI processing power of an H100 GPU.
