SpaceX Deploys Nvidia AI Computing Systems in Orbit by 2027
SpaceX plans to deploy Nvidia AI computing systems in orbit as early as 2027. The project, which combines Nvidia's Vera Rubin platform with SpaceX's Starlink satellite technology, aims to extend the use of chipmaker Nvidia's technology beyond conventional data centers.
Musk made this announcement on X, stating that he expects SpaceX to deploy Nvidia's AI computing systems in space during 2027. The system includes 72 Rubin graphics processing units and 36 Vera central processing units, along with networking and data-processing components.
The initial satellites are targeted for launch in 2027, with additional deployments planned for 2028. To support this effort, SpaceX will modify the spacecraft platform used for newer Starlink satellites to replace communications hardware with computing equipment and increase solar-generation capacity.
