SpaceX Set to Capture 76% of Satellite Market by 2030, Wells Fargo Says
Wells Fargo's analysis suggests that SpaceX (SPCX) is poised to capture 76% of the global satellite broadband market by 2030, with a projected revenue of $74 billion at a 49% compound annual growth rate.
This would make SPCX the dominant player in the market, which is expected to reach $107 billion. The bank's analyst, Ken Gawrelski, attributes SpaceX's potential success to its high launch frequency and lower costs compared to other satellite providers.
Amazon (AMZN) also has a presence in the market with its Leo satellite broadband network, but it is expected to generate only 10% of the global market by 2030, or $11 billion in revenue. While Amazon's network is still being built and has room for growth, Wells Fargo does not expect it to become a major contributor to Amazon's financial results over the next three years.
SpaceX's lower launch costs are seen as a key advantage over Amazon Leo, with estimates suggesting that a Falcon 9 launch costs around $11 million compared to $75 million-$100 million for third-party launch services. Wells Fargo expects SpaceX's scaled network to recover its investment in about one year, while Amazon Leo would take roughly five years.
