SpaceX Taps Nvidia for Starmind AI Satellite Computing Push
SpaceX has announced a major partnership with Nvidia to develop its Starmind AI satellites. The satellites will use Nvidia's Vera Rubin GPUs and Vera CPUs for datacenter-class space computing, marking a significant milestone in orbital computing.
The Starmind AI1 satellite will be powered by localized compute to process AI workloads and beam processed data back to Earth via high-bandwidth optical laser links connected to the Starlink constellation. It will also harvest solar power and cooling in low-Earth orbit, overcoming terrestrial power bottlenecks.
According to SpaceX's official Starmind page, the satellite will have a deployed height of 30m, wingspan of 75m, and compute payload of up to 250 kW peak/175 kW average. It will also use active fluid cooling and redundant pumping loops for thermal management.
