SPEEA Rejects Boeing Contract Offer, Authorizes Strike
SPEEA, the union representing engineers and scientists at Boeing, has rejected the company's contract offer. The proposal included a 29.4% salary increase over four years.
The vote was not unanimous, with 64.25% of professional unit members rejecting the offer. In the technical unit, 71.87% voted against it.
The union has authorized a strike if an agreement is not reached by October 6th, when the current contract expires. A work stoppage would likely delay Boeing's certification campaigns for its 737 Max 10 and 777-9 planes.
Boeing Vice President Bobbie Egan stated that the company will divert funds to prepare for a potential strike. This means that retroactive pay and a higher incentive plan target are no longer available.
