SpiceJet Axes Boeing 737-8 Passenger Operations Amid Financial Constraints
SpiceJet has suspended its Boeing 737-8 passenger operations due to financial and lease constraints. According to TravelExtra, the airline removed the Boeing 737 MAX from its active schedules on August 28. This decision comes after SpiceJet attempted to rebuild its MAX flying in June when it returned one 737-8 to commercial service.
The airline attributed the suspension of MAX operations to financial and lease constraints rather than a new safety issue with the aircraft type. The suspension follows recent attempts to revive MAX service, including the return of one 737-8 to passenger flights in June.
SpiceJet's domestic market share was already declining before the reported MAX suspension. DGCA data showed its share falling from 2.5% in May to 1.6% in July, with 187,000 domestic passengers and 34.5% on-time performance.
