SpiceJet Expands Fleet by Nearly Tripling Active Aircraft
SpiceJet is expanding its fleet by nearly tripling its active aircraft from 11 to 31, thanks to a deal for 20 leased planes. The airline will add 15 Boeing and five Airbus jets through wet and damp leases, with deliveries scheduled between mid-October and mid-November 2026.
The new capacity will support domestic and international services during India's winter schedule, which begins with increased demand around the Durga Puja festival. SpiceJet expects to retain the aircraft for at least one summer travel season.
Under a wet lease, the aircraft owner supplies the plane, crew, maintenance, and insurance, while a damp lease has a similar structure but with some crew provided by the airline leasing the planes.
