St. Bernard Site Abandoned by Glove Maker, Eyes Data Center Pivot
A $240 million plan to build a medical glove manufacturing facility in St. Bernard, Ohio has fallen through, leaving the site without its would-be tenant.
The U.S. Medical Glove Co., based in Harvard, had earlier announced plans to expand into the former Procter & Gamble site, but ultimately decided against it.
CAI Investments LLC, the Las Vegas-based trust that owns and manages the property at 5177 Spring Grove Ave., is now considering a data center concept for the site.
The St. Bernard Soap Co. property has deep industrial roots, dating back to Procter & Gamble's historic Ivorydale bar soap plant, which operated for over 110 years before being spun off in 2003.
The site's owner is weighing a small data center that would occupy about 15% of the former soap manufacturing property, utilizing part of its existing electrical infrastructure, including two separate power supply lines delivering 40 megawatts immediately, with potential expansion up to 200 megawatts.
