St Joseph County Weighs TIF District Expansion for Microsoft Data Center
St. Joseph County leaders are weighing a proposal to expand a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district to include the Microsoft Data Center in Granger, Indiana.
A TIF is a financing mechanism that allows local governments to use property tax revenue generated by new development within a designated area to fund infrastructure and other improvements.
According to Jeff Rea, President & CEO of the South Bend Regional Chamber of Commerce, 'You keep reinvesting that area and it generates more growth there.'
The proposal would allow the county to borrow up to $4 million through a TIF bond to help pay for infrastructure improvements in the district.
