Starcloud Rises to $2.3B Valuation After $250M Funding Round
Starcloud, a startup that aims to put data centers in orbit, has raised $250 million at a valuation of $2.3 billion, its second major funding round this year.
The company's goal is to deploy a constellation of 88,000 satellites and 20 gigawatts of orbital compute power, which would be fueled by NVIDIA GPUs.
Starcloud has already demonstrated the capability to train AI models in space using its first satellite, Starcloud-1, which launched last November and carried the first NVIDIA H100 GPU into orbit.
The company's founders have a strong background in engineering and finance, with experience at companies like SpaceX, Microsoft, Airbus Defence and Space, McKinsey, and Opontia.
The new funding will be used to build manufacturing capacity, collaborate with NVIDIA on space-rated hardware, and secure future launch allocation.
