Steam Machine GPU Compared to Two-Generation-Old Nvidia Card
The Steam Machine's custom graphics processing unit (GPU) has been benchmarked against Nvidia's RTX 3060, and the results may surprise you. The custom GPU is comparable to the two-generation-old Nvidia card in several games, including 'Starfield' and 'Resident Evil 4'. In fact, the Steam Machine's GPU is either neck-and-neck or slightly outperformed by the RTX 3060 in these titles.
However, it's worth noting that the Steam Machine's GPU lags behind the RTX 3060 in other games. For example, 'Crimson Desert' saw a significant improvement with FSR 4.1 upscaling on the Steam Machine, rising from 28 frames per second to 40 frames per second. Nevertheless, Nvidia's own DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) technology still offers better performance.
The Steam Machine has been plagued by availability issues for storage and memory, driving up prices and making it a less appealing option. If the device were priced more competitively, its performance may not be as much of an issue.
