Steel Producer Boosts Efficiency with Blast Furnace Upgrade
A major steel producer has upgraded its blast furnace air-supply control system to improve operational reliability and efficiency. The upgrade was carried out by Honeywell Technologies' CCC, which designed and implemented a fully digital, microprocessor-based control platform.
The existing control systems were outdated and struggled to manage important air-supply parameters efficiently. This led to operational disturbances, energy losses, and an increased risk of equipment failure.
The new system uses a digital electric-to-hydraulic transducer to enable precise, high-speed control of the plant's existing hydraulic actuators. This approach allowed the producer to introduce modern control capabilities without replacing valuable installed equipment.
