Streaming Giants Unite Against Regulatory Pressure on Sports Broadcasting
The streaming giants Netflix, Amazon, and YouTube have formed an alliance to protect their growing live sports investments amid increasing scrutiny from Washington regulators. The Streaming Access and Choice Alliance aims to advocate for technology-neutral policies that encourage innovation in entertainment.
Managed by TechNet, a major tech industry trade association, the new coalition gives these powerhouses a dedicated policy vehicle after past departures from other trade groups.
The Justice Department and Federal Communications Commission are reviewing antitrust rules governing sports media rights, which has raised concerns among streaming companies. The alliance will help them shape federal entertainment policy and safeguard their ability to invest in live sports events without being subject to legacy broadcasting regulations.
