Billionaire businessman Lord Alan Sugar has unleashed a scathing attack on American Express after he was refused a credit limit increase.

The 79-year-old entrepreneur, worth £1.3 billion, took to social media platform X to express his frustration, calling the bank 'a bunch of idiots.'

Sugar claimed he spent an hour on the phone with American Express, being passed from one representative to another before finally speaking to someone in the UK who knew his financial status.

However, despite his impressive net worth and successful business ventures, including founding electronics company Amstrad and fronting reality TV show The Apprentice, Sugar's request for a credit limit increase was denied due to 'their system.'

The businessman hit back at critics who accused him of being hypocritical, given his council housing background.
