Summerween Arrives: Early Bird Shoppers Snatch Up Halloween Merchandise
Halloween merchandise is flooding store shelves weeks before fall begins, sparking a trend dubbed 'Summerween.'
Retailers like The Home Depot and Michaels are stocking skeletons, pumpkins, cauldrons, and costumes as early as July, with shoppers eager to get in on the spooky season.
According to RetailMeNot's retail insights expert Stephanie Carls, 70% of shoppers plan to buy fall or Halloween items before September, with candy (30%), decorations (27%), costumes (22%), fall home decor (21%), and candles and seasonal scents (21%) being the most popular choices.
At The Home Depot, store manager Josh Burgess said demand is year-round, adding that popular items will sell out fast. 'I would suggest getting in as soon as you can,' he said. 'It will go.'
