Switzerland Lands Quantum System Two from IBM and Lockheed Martin
IBM and Lockheed Martin have partnered to bring a Quantum System Two to Switzerland by the end of 2026. The system, powered by IBM's Nighthawk r2 processor with 120 programmable qubits, will be hosted at ETH Zurich's Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS) in Lugano.
The deployment is part of a Lockheed Martin offset agreement with armasuisse, Switzerland's Federal Office for Defence Procurement. ETH Zurich will coordinate access for researchers and selected companies, but details on the selection process and pricing have not been disclosed.
The system will be powered by IBM's Nighthawk r2 processor, which can execute over 100,000 circuits per second, up to 25 times faster than IBM's Heron-family processors. It has also demonstrated accurate computations on circuits containing more than 7,500 gates.
