Switzerland Launches First IBM Quantum System Two with Lockheed Martin Partnership
IBM and Lockheed Martin have launched a quantum innovation hub at ETH Zurich, a prominent public research university in Switzerland. This collaboration brings together IBM's expertise in quantum computing and AI with Lockheed Martin's innovations in quantum sensing and additive manufacturing.
The hub will host Switzerland's first IBM Quantum System Two, powered by an IBM Quantum Nighthawk processor, at the Swiss National Supercomputing Center (CSCS) in Lugano. This system is expected to accelerate scientific and industrial research across various fields, including chemistry, materials science, optimization, and financial services.
The initiative aims to foster Switzerland's workforce and talent by providing access to IBM's fleet of quantum computers available over the cloud and enabling the country's community of innovators to build new use cases. Additionally, two joint development projects between IBM and Lockheed Martin will explore quantum sensing applications for navigation and improve additive manufacturing of metallic alloys.
This collaboration builds upon a long-standing partnership between IBM and ETH Zurich, including a recently launched 10-year effort to advance foundational algorithmic research.
