Switzerland to Host First IBM Quantum System Two Amid Growing Quantum Computing Push
IBM and Lockheed Martin have partnered to create a quantum innovation hub at ETH Zurich in Switzerland. The initiative, which is part of an offset agreement with armasuisse, aims to bring together industry, academia, and government to advance research and development in the field of quantum computing.
The hub will host Switzerland's first IBM Quantum System Two, powered by an IBM Quantum Nighthawk processor, at the Swiss National Supercomputing Center in Lugano. ETH Zurich will provide expertise, resources, and technologies for industries, startups, and academia to access the quantum computer.
IBM and Lockheed Martin will collaborate on joint development projects, including quantum sensing for navigation and improving additive manufacturing of metallic alloys. The initiative is expected to catalyze the development of new algorithms, technical breakthroughs, and industrial use cases, as well as anchor initiatives to foster Switzerland's workforce and talent.
