Sydney Airport Near-Collision Investigated After Jetstar Plane's Sudden Brakes

A near-collision between two passenger aircraft at Sydney's busiest airport has led to an investigation by safety regulators. The incident involved a Jetstar Airbus A320 and a Qatar Airways Boeing 777, which were both taxiing on Sunday morning.

The crew of the Jetstar plane observed the Boeing 777, under tow from an aircraft tug, in close proximity on a crossing taxiway. To avoid colliding with the larger plane, the pilot applied sudden brakes, resulting in damage to the connection between the 777's nose gear and the tug.

A cabin crew member aboard the Jetstar A320 was injured during the incident. Investigators from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) are collecting data from both aircraft, air traffic control, and interviewing crew and tug operators to determine the cause of the near collision.
