Synchrony has taken the top spot in Fortune's annual ranking of the best companies to work for. The American consumer financial services firm secured the number one position among the Global 500 list, released by Fortune on August 22, 2026.
Fortune's 29th edition highlights companies that have built strong cultures of trust, community, and career development in the era of rapid technological change and artificial intelligence. Synchrony employees praised the company's flexibility, leadership, and inclusive work environment, which contributed to a stronger sense of community and engagement.
The ranking is based on confidential surveys of over 640,000 employees at eligible companies, assessing factors such as employee trust, workplace culture, flexibility, retention, and consistency across demographic groups and job roles. Hilton Worldwide Holdings, Cisco Systems, and American Express followed closely behind Synchrony in the top three spots.
