Syracuse Resident Jay Margolis Dies After Devoted Life of Service
Jay Margolis, a 76-year-old Syracuse resident, passed away on Sunday at St. Joseph's hospital after a life of service and dedication to his community.
Born on July 17, 1950, to Henry and Shirley Margolis, Jay was a lifelong resident of Syracuse who graduated from Nottingham High School in 1968 and attended Onondaga Community College.
He served in the US Air Force for 25 years, followed by an additional 25 years with the Onondaga County Sheriff's department, where he was honored to receive the Sheriff's Medal of Honor, one of the highest honors awarded by the department.
After retiring from law enforcement, Jay joined The Home Depot in the millwork department and worked at the Dewitt store for 25 years. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved playing blackjack at the Turningstone Casino and following SU sports.
