Tajikistan's Somon Air Takes Delivery of First Boeing 737 MAX Jet

Somon Air, Tajikistan's national carrier, has taken delivery of its first Boeing 737 MAX jet, a key milestone in its fleet modernization efforts. The aircraft, a 737-8, was leased from Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) and is the first of two planes that will be delivered to Somon Air.

The new plane represents a significant upgrade for Somon Air's operations, offering improved range capability and fuel efficiency compared to its previous fleet. According to Abdulkosim Valiev, CEO of Somon Air, 'Considering the central geographic location of Tajikistan and the improved range capability of Boeing 737-8, this fleet expansion gives Somon Air opportunity to open new routes with improved economics considering the new aircraft's fuel efficiency.'

The 737 MAX will support Somon Air's growth plans, including its commitment to purchase up to 14 fuel-efficient 787 Dreamliner and 737 MAX airplanes. The plane is versatile and can carry up to 210 passengers depending on configuration, with a range of up to 3,500 nautical miles (6,480 km).
