Take-Two Pursues Leakers of GTA 6 Footage with Federal Subpoenas
Take-Two Interactive is taking drastic measures to combat the recent leaks of its upcoming game Grand Theft Auto 6. The company has filed requests for US federal court subpoenas seeking user data from Microsoft and Discord linked to unauthorized GTA 6 footage and other material.
The subpoenas, which were filed under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, seek identifying information about users who have accessed or shared leaked content on these platforms. Take-Two is requesting business records and investigative records associated with Microsoft's internal investigation of the 'cyberleek' persona, as well as all identifying information associated with user accounts that have communicated with identified Discord servers.
The company is seeking to identify alleged infringers and gather evidence, rather than establish wrongdoing. However, this move has raised concerns among fans who joined leak-focused Discord communities simply to follow the story.
CyberLeek, the online persona behind the leaks, has continued releasing apparent GTA 6 material even as Take-Two pursues identifying information through the courts. The group's material has also promoted its cryptocurrency, with one recent message linking a higher market capitalization for the token to further leaks.
