Take-Two Sues Microsoft and Discord Over Grand Theft Auto 6 Leaks
Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games have issued federal court subpoenas to Microsoft and Discord in response to unauthorized leaks of Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) material. The action is aimed at identifying individuals responsible for sharing copyrighted content online, including audiovisual elements, artwork, dialogue, and creative elements.
The subpoenas target infringing media uploaded to Microsoft's GitHub developer platform and circulated across various Discord servers. In a statement, Scott Van Vliet, CTO of Microsoft's Xbox division, confirmed the company is working closely with Take-Two and Rockstar Games to safeguard intellectual property.
Despite the leaks, preparations for GTA 6's launch continue forward. According to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, preorders have seen an exceptional start during an August earnings call. Additionally, Netflix will debut an exclusive extended look at the title prior to its broader video release on November 19, 2026.
Discord has confirmed it complies with valid DMCA subpoenas, while Microsoft is cooperating with Take-Two and Rockstar Games in their efforts to protect intellectual property. The exact measures being taken to prevent further leaks are unclear at this time.
