TAROM's Boeing 737 MAX Era Begins with First Aircraft Delivery

TAROM, Romania's national airline, has taken delivery of its first Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. The plane, named Mircea Lucescu, was delivered on September 12, 2026, and is part of a four-aircraft programme that will see the carrier acquire newer, more efficient planes to replace its aging fleet.

The arrival of the 737 MAX marks a significant step in TAROM's fleet renewal plan, which aims to simplify the airline's operations and reduce costs. The new aircraft will fly on routes connecting Bucharest with major European capitals, providing an enhanced passenger experience. Boeing says the 737-8 offers around 20% lower fuel consumption and carbon emissions than the aircraft it replaces.

TAROM has been operating a relatively small fleet while undergoing restructuring. The airline's current fleet consists of three 737-700s, four 737-800s, two ATR 72 turboprops, and four ATR 72-600s. The 737-700s are among the aircraft targeted for replacement by the new-generation MAX.
