Teacher Banned Indefinitely After Asking Child to Remove Shorts on Twitch
Liam Quinn, a 32-year-old IT and Computing teacher at Audenshaw School in Greater Manchester, has been banned from teaching indefinitely after using Google Translate to ask a child to remove their shorts on a streaming platform.
Quinn was suspended in April 2020 and subsequently sacked the following month amid a police probe. A misconduct panel heard that he used a secondary account on Twitch to talk to a child and asked them to remove their shorts via Google Translate, which they did.
During an interview with Greater Manchester Police, Quinn claimed he had initially treated the exchange as 'stupid joke' and an attempt to provoke a reaction and get banned from the platform. He was given a conditional caution in 2024 for causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity.
The panel described the findings as 'exceptionally serious' and concluded that Quinn's behaviour may lead to pupils being exposed to, or influenced by, harmful online interactions.
